在商務(wù)英語的翻譯中，很多領(lǐng)域都會涉及到數(shù)字的翻譯，其中包括數(shù)字的總數(shù)、數(shù)字的變化和變化幅度以及數(shù)字的倍數(shù)等。由于數(shù)字在英語和漢語中表達(dá)的方式不同，數(shù)字的翻譯對于很多學(xué)生來說無疑是一大難點(diǎn)。

1. 數(shù)字的表達(dá)

數(shù)字在英語和漢語中的表達(dá)方式是不同的。漢語是個(gè)，十，百，千，萬，十萬，百萬，千 萬,億,十億……，也就是以“十”的倍數(shù)來表示；而英語則是在數(shù)字超過千以后，以“千” (thousand)的倍數(shù)來表達(dá)，如“一萬”是“十千”，即ten thousand; “十萬”是“百千”，即 hundred thousand;“ 百萬”為million。百萬以上的數(shù)字則用“百萬”的倍數(shù)表達(dá)，如“千萬”是“十百萬”，即ten million;“億”是“百百萬”，即hundred million;“十億”為billion。對于四位以上的數(shù)字，我們也可以說漢語中是四位計(jì)數(shù)（萬，億），而英語中是三位計(jì)數(shù) (thousand,million,billion,trillion)。了解了兩者的區(qū)別之后，我們在翻譯數(shù)字的時(shí)候就要注意思維和表達(dá)方式的轉(zhuǎn)換。

翻譯時(shí)常會遇到一些較籠統(tǒng)的數(shù)字，如“幾個(gè)”、“十幾個(gè)”、“幾十個(gè)”等，這類表達(dá)法需要熟記：幾個(gè)（some，a few, several, a number of)，十幾個(gè)（more than ten, no more than twenty)，幾十個(gè)（dozens of), 幾十年（decades)，七十好幾（well over seventy)，好幾百個(gè) (hundreds of), 成千上萬（thousands of),幾十萬（hundreds of thousands of),億萬 (hundreds of millions of)等。

例 1  123456789

在英語中，我們這樣看：123，456，789，讀作：one hundred and twenty-three million four hundred and fifty-six thousand seven hundred and eighty-nine。

在漢語中，我們這樣看:1，2345，6789，讀作：一億兩千三百四十五萬六千七百八十九。

2. 數(shù)字倍數(shù)的表達(dá)以及翻譯

英語表示倍數(shù)增減或倍數(shù)對比的句型多種多樣，其中有一些很容易譯錯(cuò)，主要原因在于：英漢兩種語言在表述或?qū)Ρ缺稊?shù)方面存在著語言與思維差異。現(xiàn)將常用的英語倍數(shù)句型及其正確澤法歸納如下：

A is n times bigger (longer, more, ...) than B.

A is n times as big (long, much, ...) as B.

A is n times the size(length, amount, ...) of B.

以上三句都表示A的大?。ㄩL度, 數(shù)量，……）是B的n倍或A比B大（長，多，……） n-1 倍。

increase by n times

increase by a factor of n

以上四式都表示:增加到n倍（或增加n - 1倍）。

例 2 The production of this factory has been increased to three times as compared with that of last year.

譯文：這家工廠的產(chǎn)量比去年增加了2倍（增加到去年的3倍）。

在這類句型中increase常被raise, grow, go/step up, multiply等詞所替代；同樣，表不倍數(shù)減少可用decrease, reduce, shorten，go/slow down等。在翻譯倍數(shù)減少的句子時(shí)，要注意decrease by 3 times應(yīng)譯為“減少2/3”，而不是“減少3/4”。

例 3 Switching time of the new-type transistor is shortened 3 times.

譯文：新型晶體管的開關(guān)時(shí)間縮短了 1/3(即縮短到2/3)。

英語中還有表示倍數(shù)的專用詞匯：double (增加1倍)，treble(增加2倍），quadruple (增加3倍）。

例 4 China's annual income per capita of 2004 quadrupled that of 1994.

譯文：2004年中國的人均年收人比1994年翻了兩番（比1994年增加了3倍）。
